As much as im obsessed with plaid i think it gets kinda busy for an entire headliner. The alcantara/s suede looks nice. The pinstripe too but borders a little bit on bling to me. Dunno why.

black suede is so classic, its just a pain in the ass depending on the shape of your headliner

From what i researched yesterday

http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/566588

http://www.stockinteriors.com/installheadliner.asp

I pretty much didn't follow those guidelines though, i just needed help getting the headliner out.

The only materials i used were 3M 90 hi-strength adhesive, hot glue gun, fabric.

Getting the lines straight on the plaid was a BITCH, there are spots that are wavy, but were impossible to get straight.

Its not a one piece like newer bmw's... Its got bows inside the fabric and is glued on the rear. Thats why I asked how difficult it would be... ITs alot more time consuming.

I with you guys. I'm too scared to do it. I was thinking about doing it one weekend. Then I looked in my car to see what all was involved. Once I REALLY looked at it, I was like, "Fuuuuuuuck that." haha :D

Honestly exactly what I said when I looked at mine haha. I do wonder how hard it actually would be.

Fuzzy and Dubmd, both of your headliners are full of win.

To you e28 guys, it sounds like your headliners are setup in a similar way to my 2002, with having the support rods and being glued in the back and such. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same, but in a 2002 all the windows have to come out in order to do the headliner, which is an epic pain in the ass.

I just ordered my desert digital camo print fabric for my headliner. I'll post picks once I get it put up. I have an 2003 bmw 330i, orient blue with beige interior. It won't be too dark or a lot of contrast, but I thought it would look cool and I haven't seen it yet.

For all you guys doing headliners: I got some suede from Jo-ann's and they had some headliner specific adhesive there so I gave it a try. Don't use the glue from Jo-ann's. It's terrible, a pain in the ass to work with, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be redoing my headliner within a couple months because it didn't come out right at all. Sucks, but it's really gonna bother me because it doesn't look perfect yet.

I just covered the headliner and pillars with black suede, I figured I'd probably get bored of plaid or something after a while

Epic thread, I`d never have thought that the tartan/plaid material would make such an impact. The ones with the matching pillars and parcel shelves are really cool. I`m wondering would chequered material like a chess board look good or just tacky.....

It lives! I'm using the 3M Super 77 adhesive as well. I just pulled my headliner and pillars out this morning and will prolly do her up on Sunday and hopefully get it back in the car that evening. I haven't decided on the rear deck, I have to pull out the back seat to get it out. I already have to remove my sunroof glass to get my sunroof shade out. Damn BMW's. I'll post up pics as soon as I'm done.

I bought my digi print camo from Barre Army/Navy Store online (http://www.vtarmynavy.com/). From what I could tell they had a decent selection of camo materials and they shipped it pretty quick. The price seemed reasonable. I tried a couple of local craft stores before I really knew what I wanted.

prodigee - they had this over there for 3.95 a yard. They also had it in a sky blue, this was the electric blue. :)

I need inspiration....

Want something to match my black dash/sand-beige leather....

Perhaps some purple?

I'm thinking about a black leather with tan thread quilt stiched headliner for my new car. It has a tan leather interior now so I want to incorporate the tan while still keeping it classy looking.

I'll take some more pics when its all done and the interior is all in. I looks good with the seats in and the dash back together though so far, Not as flashy as it seems in these pics.

Well, it looks like everybody's ignoring me.
So i repeat: where you guys get that "checked" material for your headliners? From ebay, local shop or somewhere else?
Because I hadn't found any of these in Lithuania..

Picked up an mk2 gti last week, and the headliner was touching my head haha. So I replaced it with this..

It was such a bitch getting it out (that's what she said) without having the liner board thing crumble lol. Got the fabric at joanns fabric for like 8 bucks. Then got some 3M spray adhesive for 7. First time I ever did something like this, I'll post some pics when I put it back in tomorrow. I think it turned out good! I'm keeping the sunroof liner black. Idk about the pillars yet, our the visors. Any suggestions?

If you don't wanna spend a lot you can get micro suede. I got mine off of ebay and it's foam backed. It also looks much better than most of the stuff in this thread.

Here's a couple pics, it's hard to get a good pic it though

Cool 'preciate the help. The thing is that I'm getting an image printed on fabric and im not sure what fabric to go with. My options are polyester, nylon, cotton, and silk. I'm thinking about going with polyester. Will i run into any problems with choosing that material?
