View Full Version : Something different to StanceWorks.. (minitruck content)
Now I dont know how well this build will go with the StanceWorks community, if there is a lot of **** then Ill just have the build removed. But somehow I cant see that happening. :D
Alright, Where to begin....
Since I used to be in the minitrucking scene down under, I have met a hell of a lot of people in it and sort of made a name for myself.. I met this one guy (AJ, owner of this build, not on this forum YET) a few years back. He had the dream of building a truck, so he went out and bought a 1996 ford courier. Its a long story but the truck, which is pictured below, was sold off due to lack of motivation, money, etc.

Good memories with that thing, It was static, Diff on chassis, and also included a road trip to pick up the tub on it. 1180 miles in 20 hours straight. Good times.
Anyway..
He recently purchased another courier, the itch obviously didnt go away, so now with some motivation and help from myself we are going to embark on a new frontier.
The previous owner had started shaving a few things here and there..

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/peanutdrax/ute.jpg
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/peanutdrax/rollfit.jpg
But to be honest, its in terrible shape. I am going to have to redo absolutely everything. Nothing worse then redoing something that someone else has done, its so much easier to start from factory, start fresh... eh, people will never learn..
So it was(still is) siting at a 4x4 height:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3427/3806722595_275c081c5e_b.jpg
Then some more 4x4 sheetmetal was aquired, new front guards, new tailgate and some primer..
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3541/3841313511_751e3936ca_o.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2506/3842105024_3903d43288_o.jpg
Then AJ lowered it some more to get it sitting even along with fitting a chrome mazda grille, headlight surrounds and clear indicators..
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3463/3958116448_f440615528_b.jpg
And thats how it sits now. Prettymuch as soon as I pull my finger out and take my civic to the workshop to get started on that, this will be coming to my garage and the cutting shall begin :eyebrows
Plans:
- Redo all the work that has already been done to the body. :rolleyes
- Fabricate front and rear guards to be "wide body" like..
- Get the whole truck straight and ready for paint
- Tub the front inner guards, to accomodate the big wheels :eyebrows
- Toy with the Idea of fitting an IRS
- Complete 5 stud (lug) conversion
- Did I mention get it laying flat and bags?
Any whos. Rendeing:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o25/oxchopshop/IMG_3262.jpg
Yeah, I know, I fucked up the wheels, You dont have to point it out.. :(
Wheel choice will be either WORK VSKF or WORK EQUIP 05. Obviously with huge widths and offset.
The Aim of the build:
- To build a truck like none other in Australia, Going all out with the body work and fabrication with a very japanese influence.
This is more of an intro at this stage, Once the build starts the updates will be slightly more consistant, Just though I would see what my Brothers in Stance thought about it.
Can it be done? we shall soon find out ;)

The Datsun 720 was replaced in the 1986.5 model year with the D21 known in North America as the Nissan Hardbody...The Hardbody was produced for the U.S. Market from 1986.5 until 1997... Wikipedia.

This will be sick. I love minitrucks but rarely are the wheels and fitment to my taste. I'd love to see a clean truck slammed on some nice wide wheels fit super snug in the wells and still laying frame.

There isnt really that many in Aus.. Im guessing you are in NSW? theres plenty up there, but barely any that I would call "quality". Hence the reason for this build. To do something completely different to the "sheep".

Hence why this build has come to be on StanceWorks ;)

I can dig minitrucks. Especially some drifter styles like this truck. I prefer flush than tucked.

mine wont be flush or tucked.....will be sticking out fuck loads with -15 offset and 135mm of dish :P

You need to come back over so we can discuss a little more...

nah im in wa, quite a few over here-
most just hilux's with the leafs flipped or some shit
not many decent fully tubbed body dropped etc
but there are a few insain minitrucks in wa
[minitruck] and [hollywood] are 2 that come to mind
yeh but that eastcoast dw customs stuff looks amazing
Haha I used to work for DW Customs.. still good mates with them, We are like family.
Anyways, Update, Plans have changed, it isnt going to lay anymore...
Obviously most minitrucks are built to lay frame, but this build is different. After some discusion with AJ We decided a little bit of POKE was needed... In order to achieve this, while still going as low as possible, there will have to be some serious guard modifications.
Here is the picture of it as it is now:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3463/3958116448_f440615528_b.jpg
And the rendering:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o25/oxchopshop/IMG_3272.jpg
Im going to raise the wheel arches to be able to poke out whatever wheels we do decide on, while still getting it as low as possible... With a set of 18"s we may still be able to get it to lay with poke. But Im pretty sure 20"s are in order....
And here is the other rendering of the "widebody" idea.. I like the new path better though, just because its something different.

Looks like fun, I always wanted a mini truck.
However when you said ford courier I was like NOOOOO thats a mazda...are ford and mazda...like...the same thing down unduh?
p.s. raise those mirrors to the top of the a pillar, itll make the truck look lower.

Agreed on movign the mirror up ala super low "rat rod" style. I like the poke idea better than tuck. Different. Everyone tucks minitrucks. Go big or go home!

A lot of mazdas are fords. My mazda b3000 truck is really just a ford ranger.
I love the raised arches and poke idea. It's def a different take on minitrucks and I think itll be way sicker. You need the perfect size wheel though thatll make it lay frame and be perfectly flush with the lip MMs from the fender.. itd be soooo sick.
