Street parking in Santa Monica?

moving to santa monica in mid august, and im really really really aiming to having my own parking / gated parking or anything like that, but a couple of the apartments im looking at have street parking which really bothers me.

Is street parking an issue as far as theft, damage, steeling parts, or anything of that sort?

SM is a very safe hood, except for all the bums, but they dont really steal. Your biggest problem is gonna be finding a spot to park on the street. Its almost non existant in a lot of places, even worse then Hollywood. Do yourself a favor and get a handicap placard, diebetic, flat footed, whatever.. Otherwise your shits gonna be towed on a monthly basis.
