I'm going to order some tires for my style 5's this week and was wondering if anyone had used any of these tires. I am going with 205/40's simply because they are the most affordable size and I know they will fit.

These are all under $60 each. I've used nittos but didnt like them and have no experience with the other two.

Nankang NS-1 Radial
205/40R-17XL 84H BSW

Riken Raptor ZR
205/40ZR17 84W XL B

Nitto NT NeoGen ZR
205/40ZR-17 XL 84W B

they can be found here: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/searchTiresBySize.do?sw=false&cs=205&ar=40&rd=17

I called around to get some quotes locally and a few of the places I talked to said that 205/40's on a 8" wide wheel wouldn't really be stretched...?? They said that recommended wheel width for that size is 7"-8"...

What ever you do, do not choose these.
My dad ran these for a few months when he still had 17s. They were not a very good tire.

The successors, the Nankang Ns-2, however are pretty good and relatively cheap as well and they do stretch reasonably good.

I ran a 205/40 on my 8x17s when I still had them. Tire was a Falken FK452, somewhat expensive in comparison to the cheaper falkens, but very nice to drive and stretched very good.

I found some falken 502's locally for $90 each mounted/balanced/etc.
I think thats the direction I'm headed. The shop that quoted me that has a beadblaster so hopefully they can get it right.

Heres some pics from falkens site on the 502's and 512's. I like the tread pattern on the 502's, other than that I dont really see a difference.

x2... i love my set... they stretch easily... they wear really well, and for being stretched are surprisingly quiet...

these are 215/35's on an 8.5... maybe it'll help...

yokohama makes a 195/40/17 s.drive that would stretch nicely on a 8" wide rim....
and I'm pretty sure you can get them for under $100

Nankangs are great for stretch , Remember the cheaper the tire trhe better for stretch , because the sidewalls are not rienforced so no bubbles :)
Falkens are ok if the car is lite , I ran falkens on my last setup and they bubbled within a week

here is a pic of my Nankangs ns 2 245/35 on a 11 and 215/35 on a 9

i have the nankang ns2's on my summer wheels. 205/40 on a 18x8 and 215/40 on a 18x9, and they look good. they ride pretty smooth and quiet. they are terrible in the rain tho. nothing better for $75 a tire tho
