So based on my current SUPER enthusiasm with this project Ive cooked up i decided to strike up a build thread.

My plans are to take the six and essentially do an entire build on it. Which if you know me youll know this may be impossible (partially the reason im making a thread so that youz guyz can push me). Anyway the plan is to take an LT1 GM motor Which came in the 93-97 camaro / corvette / impala, mated with a six speed (which also came in the viper) all with a custom lingenfelter exhaust, GC coilover Kit, and new Brake rotors...thats all the brakes need as theyre factory 4 piston front 2 piston rears.

So heres what Im starting with:

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh79/6erwebb/webbslt.jpg

Right now Ive got the thing apart down to a couple pistons which are a bit stuck in the block due to some minor rust, and a crank hub pulley that wont come off.

Now I know what youre thinking "oh another redneck putting a 350 in his bimmer" but thats not how I see it. I plan to take every measure including every part of the motor save for the intake (which will be polished) being painted black. Hiding all the wiring in appropriate factory looms blah blah blah

sgunna be amazing, Ill get more pics of the block once I figure out the settings on ma new camera.

Gonna be sweet, even though I **** LT1's, lol. I need to start a build thread here for my LS1 e30 :)

Yes Nick imma do it. I for see this build being all about help from friends and late nights in the garage I fully expect it to be in progress for a year or two, hence why im here, to have you guys pushin me.

Oh and someone needs to give me their puller so I can get the hub off the crank and finish the disassambly...

Interested. I know it's not the same thing, but this may be of some help when I go to LSx swap my car.

Good luck, can't wait to see the end result.

Thanks Zack

The only hard part I see coming is the fabbing of the motor and trans mounts which Ive never done.

Well, I too as a previous LS1 owner have a strong disdain for LT1's but I'm sure you'll do this swap right. You better believe we'll hound you to get it done as well :D

Check out "Jags that run" they specialize in putting chev v8's in cars they didn't come in. And don't worry about the mounts, thats one of the easier parts.

Hard to loan it to you if you don't let me know that you need it. :confused

Thats what I like to hear Royal, Imma push you bro we need to start a group for these Non american cars with GM v8s.

And a better name for my project. Maybe 6R1, like the corvette zr1? i dunno

heres where we're at now:

The rust is only in 3 cylinders

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh79/6erwebb/6R1/6R1009.jpg

up close, the rust looks like it wont be too bad, I was told to send it and get the block honed and cleaned and all that but I think I may be able to do all the cleaning myself.

The only piston Ive gotten out so far that looked nasty

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh79/6erwebb/6R1/6R1003.jpg

and me pile o parts

Right now the only thing I need to buy for the block is rings bearings and seals:eyebrows

I'd send that block to a machine shop, but thats just me.

I think the motor mounts will be cake compared to the wiring... That's the part that scares me.

Wiring is a breeze for a domestic V8, compared to what is already in the car.

Really? I can't imagine being that easy, and still have all of the gauges and everything work. I'm not too experienced with any wiring for that matter, so that may have something to do with it.

12v wiring for any cars do not get complicated until they switch from analog to digital.

i would definitely send that block out to a machine shop to get honed, you dont wanna mess with piston ring clearance and you dont want a rough wall

Yea the more I think about it the more I see the up side to that

Depending on how bad those cylinders are you might want to consider just starting off with a different engine. Esp if any of the other internals are rusty. Unless your planning on turning that into a 383 stoker or something. the swap should be challenging enough without haveing to rebuild that engine. You can probably find a running 350 for less than 500 bucks. Which in the end is probably about what you would have into that block once you get it running.

Yea, from the looks of it I'd re-think using that engine without some machining (which would mean new pistions) the cylinder looks like its gonna have some serious pitting, the money you are going to spend on getting that thing in order you can pick up a good LS motor, or get a LQ9 the cast iron block alum. head escalade/h2 motor, car craft got 467hp with a cam swap and LKQ sells them for $900-1200 dressed. And they are still lighter then the LT1.

Either engine requires the same amount of parts to swap...

I am pretty sure Painless wiring makes a harness to swap either motor as well...

Do it. It will be worth it in the end. Unless you know what your doin. This seems like the start of a sweet build dude. I will be watching from the wings. Good luck

Webb,

I would def send that to a machine shop,, less hassle for you.

Yea, Im gunna. Peeps gunna have to buy some merc parts off me so I can afford it though.

On a side note, Mr.M let me borrow a puller so the cranks out now. And the reason I decided to send it out? I cant get those other two pistons out since the rust is so gnarly, IT WILL WORK THO. Funny thing is the, well ill get a picture of it later, but the ...spots where the crank sets in the block...still have the assembly lube on them...the rest of the cylinders are that good too, its just those three rusty ones.

I know a guy who works out of the basement of a Napa auto parts in town. And if I recall corectly, hes the best...and not too pricey either.

Ok so I said eff the lt1 (too heavy) then went with an ls2 ida but realized id have to sell my soul to buy one so I decided on a different swap, that will be concluded soon. Till then some progress pics?

I took the spoiler and rear bumper off but of course you cant see it well in these pics...

So you're unsure of what motor you're gonna use now? LS2 would be soooooooo gnarly but they are expensive :(
