View Full Version : too aggressive.

did a test fit for fun today. wheels were purchased last year intended to go on my E30. don't have the car anymore, but i bought an EP3 that is also 4x100.

car is NOT on coils yet. have not even attempted to do any sort of fitment, just bolted them on to see my starting point.

then i put the front on the rear to see where i was at.

i should have some front pics that i snapped with my friends T2I, but i don't have them yet. again, these were intended for an E30, but that isn't going to happen. i'm thinking about just doing smaller rear lips, but i'm not sure yet. if i go that route, i'll put it on coils.

F - 16x8.5 et14 - 205/40
R - 16x10 et-5 - 205/45

a little camber and more low to see what youre looking at would help on the rear. May not be as bad as you think.

05-22-2011, 05:51 PM
Camber, mucho camber! Good lookin' wheels though.

05-22-2011, 05:52 PM
If you keep the rear lips, you'd need bigger lips or spacers up front to match the aggressiveness IMO. I say do it though. Maybe see if you can shave some of the back of the face down to increase the offset.

the big thing here is that the front and rear dont match at all. i say get some smaller lips for the rear unfortunately. when you drop the car, the front will fit easily with no work, but the rear will need a ton of camber and never really look right because its paired with front wheels that are just flush.

05-22-2011, 08:59 PM
lol its "ep3jd". You didn't even try fitting the rears up front?? I'm telling you, with these cars there is at least 10 mm more clearance in the front. Swap them, -2 up front, 15 mm spacers on the rear (estimate), and -5 degrees rear, with a seriously un-drivable drop and this will look awesome.

Trust me!!! I know my ep3 stance lol

05-22-2011, 09:36 PM
Nvm I missed what you said up there hahaha

05-22-2011, 10:11 PM
Too much poke? Nahhhh!

05-22-2011, 10:17 PM
Oni camber out back naow!

05-23-2011, 02:15 AM
nah just sell them to me and i'll take good care of them ;)

05-23-2011, 07:46 AM
chop chop.

def narrower lips in the rear.

05-23-2011, 07:52 AM
That will look sweet with camber out back :alright

05-23-2011, 07:54 AM
i could try it. but i'd need to space out the fronts something like 15mm.

05-23-2011, 08:12 AM
Looks so awesome

05-23-2011, 08:49 AM
Just rock it like this.

05-23-2011, 04:16 PM
just tac on some fender flares.

The Chosen One
05-24-2011, 07:18 AM
smaller lips necessary, and then some camber, you might pull it off

05-24-2011, 08:00 AM
pull some fenders and slap some camber on, job done

05-24-2011, 10:28 AM
I would say sell em since they are a clean set of BBS and take that chunk of change to get something for the new car. Not sayin they "can't" fit, just the whole balance of front and rear lip sizes is throwin it off. With the money you get, you could cop a set of 17's with similar dish and lookin cleanon your EP3. Just my 2 cents
(ps- kids LOOOVE the BBS lately so perfect time to sell)

Just remembered, couldn't find a pic but there was an xB a couple years ago that rocked fender flares on the rear only. It actually worked really well. I'll see if I can dig up something on google. I remember people saying it was like a dually. lol. It was real cool though.

05-24-2011, 03:35 PM
moar poke:alright

05-24-2011, 04:10 PM
I was wondering what happened after you posted those wheels last year. Interested in seeing what the end result is.

05-24-2011, 07:27 PM
oh this is going to be nice once its lowered

05-24-2011, 07:33 PM
Please camber the rear for everyone here drooling, this will be insane

So the story goes like this - the wheels have been FS for a while now with no results. I happened to blow out a tire pulling into my driveway at home (was going home for just the weekend). Anyhow, the tires on the black wheels the car came with are snow tires, and they're all pretty much bald at this point. I dislike the wheels with a passion, and didn't want to put new tires on the wheels.

My Mom has a JCW MCS Convertible, so I borrowed her JCW wheels for a week and a half while I figured out what the hell I was going to do about the tire situation.

Now, I have decided to bite the bullet and fit the RS'. I am currently rolling on two of the BBS, and two of the black wheels. 16" in the front, and 15" in the rear. Timing is shitty because I'm an hour and a half away at school, and there is no possible way for me to work on the car here (school). I ordered 2 more 16x2.5" lips from tunershop to make the fronts and rears match - 16x8.5 +14. While I was at it, I ordered a set of coil overs. So in the next month or so I'm going to have the new lips powder coated and I'm going to DUMP it.

So here is where I'm currently at:

Because there is more clearance in the front, the rears should poke a little bit more than the fronts, and there will be more balance. The guys on the local forum are telling me it's going to look shitty, but they are wrong. It's going to look sick.

I am also planning the following to compliment the upcoming stance:
-Either a Volvo lip, or something simple like a home depot lip.
-OEM mud flaps.
-I am also contemplating a Mugen wing to make the car look a little bit less "round".
I normally don't like aftermarket shit, but I think that leaving everything stock, raking the car forward slightly (40 series in front, 45 series out back) and adding a super aggressive wing would somehow look awesome as shit.

I also need to do something about the headlight haze. But that is where I am at.

03-11-2012, 07:29 PM
Oh, I was thinking about doing polished lips and eventually gold hardware. I think I've decided to stick with all white and eventually add black spiked bolts.

03-11-2012, 07:33 PM
i say keep the white but the gold hardware is gonna look dope!

cant wait to see this thing slammed!

wet sand the headlights with 2000 grit and plenty of water

should be good

Love me a nice Ep3 btw :)

03-12-2012, 01:28 AM
holy mexiflush!

cant wait to see the new setup though!

03-12-2012, 01:30 AM
christ that poke is outrageous, some mad camber would do wonders

03-13-2012, 03:29 PM
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Considering I'm Mexican I find this Highly Offensive.

LOL. Just kidding>:D

03-13-2012, 05:13 PM
-Leave the rears as-is.
-Buy novelty car horn.

03-13-2012, 05:15 PM
-Leave the rears as-is.
-Buy novelty car horn.

THIS :rofl

03-13-2012, 06:50 PM
Horn suggestions? :shifty
Dixie horn on the General Lee is so played.

Seriously though, I'm getting antsy as shit. The lips are supposed to arrive tomorrow, and the coilovers on Saturday. I won't be home until the following weekend though, and I won't have much time so it might take a couple of trips home. I should have brought the wheels to school with me so I could disassemble them at least. Oh well, it should be worth the wait. Fingers crossed I don't run into any snags.

03-13-2012, 07:17 PM
pull that fender out, give it some camber.....alot of camber, and make it fit. thats what i would do

03-13-2012, 09:26 PM
You should have made the original RS specs you had pictured work...honestly it was possible. Very.

03-13-2012, 11:10 PM
please dont get that wing

03-13-2012, 11:14 PM
I thought it was too much poke for the car. Personal preference I suppose. I also really don't want to destroy my fender lips if at all possible.

please dont get that wing

I probably won't end up getting it. It's a bit expensive for something that isn't really necessary. Maybe the CTR one instead if I can find something cheap. Basically if I can't find it used and cheap, I'm not buying it. Came from an E30, was looking for an NA Miata, and wound up with an EP3. I like it, but it's only a matter of time before I'll need to get back in a rwd.

Ahhhhh the EP. I had an 04 NHBP EP. My most favorite car I did ever own. After I crashed and totaled mine I went through about 15 cars (buying and selling, not crashing) before I found one that I liked. Great car.

And +1 for the Mugen wing. Its adjustable, the owner of the one in that pic just angled it in a super rah-tarded way. Good luck man, cant wait to see it slammed.

03-14-2012, 12:47 AM
It is adjustable? It looked like it, but I wasn't sure if it was a funky angle or what. I do like the idea of breaking the factory lines of the car and giving the rear a little shape, or more to look at. It's been a good car, and the price was a major factor in the purchase.

03-17-2012, 07:27 PM
This is gunna look awesome when finished. Let me know if you need any tools or help. I have a fairly well equipped garage/driveway.

03-18-2012, 01:01 AM
So you drove the car around like that?

03-18-2012, 07:36 AM
Like what??

Wow, you're close. I live in Oakland Twp. when not at school. I'll probably do everything at a friends house down the street. You've likely seen him cruising around, considering how close we are to LO.
He drives these:

MK4 is either on A8 wheels, Alphards, or mono blocks right now. :rofl

EDIT - almost forgot his bike he's always tooling around on in the summer.

It's about as fast as my civic, but it looks dope.

03-18-2012, 08:07 PM
Ugh ur friend's turbo is so sick! wish he was running a different color scheme on the wheels as well as deeper dish..other than that it looks bomb.

Oh yeah I talked to him at motorstadt for a little. Cool dude, awesome car.

03-19-2012, 01:08 PM
I was there - on the right with the black shirt.

Always a good time, and I think I like the new location much better than at the old VAG HQ.

Should be updating this thread over the weekend. Gonna do the coils first.

03-19-2012, 04:12 PM
That was a good day for sure. This is the aftermath - post-motorstadt. He passed the fuck out in his car, on his driveway. :rofl

03-24-2012, 09:00 PM
Welp, found this on the rear, so I gotta order some sway bar end links.

The bolt that goes through the bottom of the rear struts are stuck. I mean, fucking stuck. :rofl
-Lots and lots of PB Blaster - Check.
-Propane torch - Check.
-2' breaker bar - Check.
-My shitty, Husky impact - Check.

Couldn't get that bitch to even move, so I went to my friends.
-His impact gun, which we were running nearly 200ft/lbs wouldn't break it.
-Acetylene torch. Got everything hot, I mean real hot.
-Then we tried a longer breaker bar. They wouldn't even move...

New plan of attack - Get new bolts and get my cutting wheel and drill ready...fuck. Gotta wait till next weekend.

We did manage to get the front coils on, and dropped them as low as they'd go.

Doesn't look that low, because of the enormous wheel wells and only being 16" wheels.

It's actually pretty damn low though.

Tomorrow I am going to see if I can get my new lips powder coated. But that's the current status.

03-25-2012, 02:14 AM
put ALLLLLLL the cambers in

03-28-2012, 09:02 PM
i really wanna see the finished product.

03-28-2012, 10:01 PM
I know, I'm still working on it.

I'll use my real camera when I get it together.

04-08-2012, 08:40 PM
This has been a headache. It took 5 failed attempts at an alignment and a fried pair of Falkens before I decided to raise it up 1.5" and just get it aligned so that I can drive it until school is out.

I snapped a couple pictures before raising it up. The toe was off 5.5˚ between the two front tires, so they would screech going in a straight line. :rofl Unfortunately my 16" wheels don't really fill the wells nearly as much as I'd like. It was as low in the front as the Raceland coils would allow, too.

I think I'll get beefier tires when I replace them. I'm not sure exactly what to do at this point, but I'll resume the project when school lets out next month. The bump steer is unbearable not, so I'm trying to figure out whether I need to cut down the bumpstops, or invert the tie rods with a heim joint. It's nice to have it aligned nicely though. The car actually has a lot more grip int he corners than I thought. I've been riding on snow tires since I bought it. :rofl

I have the new lips powder coated and ready to go.

Unfortunately the place that did the alignment couldn't get the tires off the rim. :rofl So that's the next issue to resolve. (205 on a 10" wheel).

The offsets are going to be a little different than I thought. There will be an extra .5" of poke in the rear.

And the rear goes lower than the front - by a lot. These are 15's.
