I was somewhat surprised that I couldn't find an appreciation thread for the old 6 series so I thought I'd kick one off...

Here's an old E24 in a dealership near me. The car used to belong to the man who set up the dealership. Now his son runs the dealership and refuses to sell it

Evilstar, most e24s are on a shock/spring combo. If they are running coils, it's typically Ground control, or Ireland Engineering. I'm personally on Konis and Suspension Techniques springs.

Louis, Mike's e24 is long gone.

Jorge, most of us are on 16 or 17s.

It's the early Euro bumper/air dam. The Euro E24's before '82 had them.

I see. Thank you very much. Do you know if it Is it possible to get the lower valance to work with US bumpers? I guess really I would want to replace the whole bumper wouldn't I? No more diving boards FTW. Could I saw that bumper onto a early 82 US version (e12 base) without much trouble? I like how it looks with out fogs.

I've seen the Euro air dam on US Bumpers, they don't fit right, or look right. Better off swapping bumpers, but it's not just a rip off/bolt on process. There's usually body work involved to make them right.

17x10 17x11 plan was for 17x12 rear, would have fit without any issues.... e12 fenders and suspension are key with this wheel setup. i also made my own camber plates for it which gave me an extra 2 inches with travel.... this is the only thread ill ever write this in

What were the rear offsets man ! If you know..

I've heard about the E12 fenders on the front, lower arch with the body line and no indicator holes. If some crop up rust free I'll be getting some. Planning a 17x10/11 setup on mine, offsets around the ET6/-8 (F/R)

@Jorge: that's normal :P, when we ride to a BMW Meeting, the viewers are splitted into to groups, the ones who says "great work, it's perfect and unique" and the others who says "wtf how can you do this to such a great car, you should be put into the jail"

but when you tell them, that the car otherwise had been put the the yunkyard, they mostly accepted it

He posted in here that his setup was 17x10 17x11. I haven't been able to find a single e24 thats really low on 16s.

The 17x10 & 11's were the gold Epsilons, previous to that were gold RS I think and before that were the above black centre ARE's(I think I read they were) and were 16's.

They certainly look to be 16in centres with 17in lips with that bolt shelf being the width that it is. To go that route you'd either have to find RS198 lips and barrels as they're 17's that accept 16in centres(there might be other models that do to, but I know those do for sure), or customs from somewhere like Rotiform etc.

Where'd you find that photo, any more wild E24's where that one came from?

There are only a few 17in BBS lips/barrels that will accept 16in centres. All 16's and 17's have 34 holes(maybe some early 16's had 30), but the centre diameters are slightly different. So for example, RS198 are 17x8.5 ET13 which are the exact same sizes and offsets as RS212's which are also 17x8.5 ET13 but the RS198 use 16in centres and special lips/barrels to suit, where the RS212 are the true 17in version that will accept any off the shelf aftermarket 17in lips etc. So to make your 16in centres into 17's you'll need specific parts, either the rarer lips/barrels that BBS put out or custom made ones. It might be easier to just find some 17in specific RS, like RS212 or RS197 etc etc and widen them.

Also nice find on that link.....that E24 looks so tough dumped on those dished RS, I wonder if it's on custom coilovers or air, I'd guess the latter.
