  • spring rates for running wider wheels

im about to finally order a set of coilovers but i want to make sure to buy proper spring rates to support my wider wheels. im going from a stock size of:

    18x8 +50
    225/45/18

    to

    18x9.5 +15
    225/40/18
    18x10.5 +15
    245/40/18

the stock spring rates are 9k/6k (Stance GR+), is that fine or should i go with something else?

    thanks

    hello,
your spring rate doesn't really have anything to do with how wide your wheels are -- you can run whatever spring rate you want and it wouldn't affect how the wheels fit.

it's when you start running really tight poke or super slammed fitment, where too much compression can cause wheel to inner or outer fender contact (or if the body will contact the ground on compression) when you want to investigate getting a higher spring rate to reduce the amount of vertical motion the chassis sees.

those sizes don't look too aggressive (although it obviously depends on what car you're putting them on); most people will be fine on the original stance spring rates
