Damn, I loved Verizon as a network. I always had reception, no dropped calls, and their customer service was top notch. Apple actually went to Verizon first but they turned them down =( oh well, guess ill just have to wait and find out

Maybe Multi-touch is new, but the rest of what you said agrees with my point. None of that is new, just done better :)
I like the iPhone don't get me wrong, the thing that kills it for me is the battery life and no hardware keyboard.

I just can't bring myself to spend the money on their products with more/equal can be had for WAY less. I was just shopping for a laptop. Been using the same laptop(AMD 64 2.4ghz 1gb ddr2 RAM) for close to 4 or 5 years!

Off I go to the internet. I shopped Tiger, newegg, apple.com, dell, gateway, macmall and others. I know everyone loves their Apple laptops but the price is just outrageous. I settled on a Intel Dual Core 2.0ghz, 4gb DDR2 Ram, HDMI Out, DVD-RW DL/Blu-Ray. Loaded... 500 shipped. 5.5lbs with a 14.1" screen. To get that on an Apple I would be paying over double. I just can't warrant that. I'd rather buy 2.5 of this Gateway and have backups or give one to the wife.

Yep, Verizon uses CDMA basically restricted to the US which is why their service is probably the best and the handsets suck in all areas especially battery life!

Sprint uses CDMA as well

ATT/T-Mobile uses GSM (SIM cards) meaning your phones are "capable" of usage abroad. I stress capable since the two companies make sure the phone is locked (restricted to the carrier exclusively (redundant?)).

I use a hacked jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3g under t-mobile and as a former Blackberry advocate, I wouldnt go back! Its sorta like moving from FWD to RWD....

nothing like having a phone that can essentially do whatever I want! (when it comes to phones).

UPDATE: I just restored/upgraded my 3g to the 3.0 OS, Jailbroke it with Redsn0w (very intricate process) and since I use T-Mobile, I am now patiently waiting for Ultrasn0w which should have been released on Friday. I hope it is here by tomorrow..!

you can unlock your own 3gs (soon) and 3g now, just make sure you have a att sim card bc as far as i know you need to put one in the phone for a little bit to get it to work, then you can unlock and do every thing else

go for 2 months at a high plan and get the rollovers then drop down at an in-store kiosk to a smaller plan, you will lose your rollovers doing this but if you call and play the 'they told me i wouldnt lose them at the store' card youll get them back

right now im at the 450 minutes + 5000 nights and weekends plan for 39.99/mo and the iphone plan for 20, and 1500 message plan for another 15.. doesnt sound like a ton of minutes but i have over 3k rollovers which i use every once in a while

thats about 80 dollars not counting the 13% off monthly statement with my former employers corporate fan#
