Toyota Altezza SR20DET Daily

[Kruizer]

Right here how it goes, I wanted a daily driver for the simple things in life, collecting my son and taking the dogs to the beach but big suprise it couldn't be standard so with a few bob and an Austin Mini swapped, I collected a very clean low mileage Toyota Altezza running a Beams engine.

However being friends with one or Ireland's best drifters / fabricators was bound to be a recipe for disaster LoL Thanks to Martin Ffrench I now have a car to be proud of with more to come. Here is my build diary from start to finish.

Then came the easy part, fitting the engine and box, you see Martin has already claimed world fame with his crazy builds and had an SR20 Altezza track car so it was simply a case of copying engine and gearbox mounts for my own road car ! Roll the arches now, run a return fuel line as the Altezza's only have a feeder, splicing the fans to the S13 alloy rad and making up brackets for the cooler and rad...

On went the fab work making everything up to suit the car so as to give all the parts a factory fit appearance, knowing the engine would outshine the look of the car it came time to get some proper wheels under it, so I ripped the wheels off my FD3S for the Tezza and got to work. Hello Racing Harts, 19 x 9JJ up front and 19 x 10JJ at the rear...

Unfortunately I can't fit the Brembo 8pots with the new wheels as the smallest disc they take is a 355 and the biggest disc that will go under the new Works is a 330 but said I would show you what I had planned...

Rear : 18 x 13.5JJ / -10 offset / running a 315 / 30 ZR18 (N rated porsche tire)

I just threw on some KP61 over fenders to get an idea of the look, these will not actually be fitted, the new arches are yet to be decided...

Carrying one as a spare would be funny as the first pic shows and fitting them will be even more fun, check out the older 10JJ rears compared to the new 13.5JJ rears, ouchie.... Slapped them on, threw on an over fender and even the puppy had to have a nose, thats all I have for now folks but as soon as I find over fenders to suit the car, I will get out the angle grinder and start to chop her up, promise LoL

Thanks Ollie, was thinking about leaving the flares black however with the tire I think you'd miss the stance hence why they are going Toyota 040 white :)

Doubt I'll be cutting the door but who knows, ideas, ideas, thing is its my weekend driver and I want to enjoy the drive ;)

I usually buy from rhdjapan.com or nengun.com but luckily I have mates here that have supplied pretty much everything ie Just Jap, Wexican Motorsport and Japanese Performance (supplied the wheels) If your after anything in particular I can suggest someone to ask if that helps ???

ever thought about v-mounting the intercooler and radiator? looks like there would be enough space. would give mad short intake length and look crazy, but you'd need to mod the bonnet (which would suit the car anyway...). just some ideas, im sure you've probably got it planned out already though!

ever thought about v-mounting the intercooler and radiator? looks like there would be enough space. would give mad short intake length and look crazy, but you'd need to mod the bonnet (which would suit the car anyway...). just some ideas, im sure you've probably got it planned out already though!

The intercooler / rad are v-mounted however not in the usual setup, there is no heat soak atm so happy days, if I was to mesh up the front you would never know there was an FMIC there however if I v-mounted it correctly ;) and cut the bonnet it would be obvious, I like my semi street sleeper for now. But thanks Nick I like to discuss all options :)

The reason I didn't go 1JZ even thou I had one from a JZX100 sitting in my garage was weight, I wanted this car to have the engine as far back as possible for weight distribution and also not to affect the cars handling by being noise heavy, parts were readily available to me to I pressed forward with the build, hope that clears up my choices for you dude...

Your not the only one, still have to look once a day to make sure they are real ha, ha, ha...

Should have the arches next week so hope to have more updates soon...

One of the split rims was leaking air so had to rip off the tire, re seal her and throw it back on the car, looks good on the space saver no ? Next hassle was getting her onto the truck using planks of wood, eventually went up on the front but the rear wheels just spit them out LoL Had to use them due to the exhaust being so close to the ground at that angle, got her all strapped up and off she went to TDP... Looking forward to getting her back mapped and ready to rock :)

Its a GM colour, 3 stage Red Pearl...

So now I remember why I **** car shows, there is always a panic coming up to them to sort the stupid stuff on your car. So I got out the boss kit I bought Estie (cheers mate) and went about fitting it and the Sparco wheel that I got off Mark. Wheel looks a bit grubby but its just the gay flash.

Next was the rear suspension, car was too low, lower than the front in fact so I decided to raise it slightly, Coilovers needed a good clean anyways and the perch rings weren’t as free as I would like along with some paint chips and marks. I got on Dave in Japanese Performance (The lad who seems to get most of my free cash at this stage :p) and ordered some nice new purple perch rings from HKS Europe, got them and they worked a treat, happy days, gave the Coilovers a clean adjust the height, although the new height makes the baby jesus cry 

Next came the wheels, there was a little bit of over spray on the dish which made them a bit dull so out with the peak for the dish and G3 for the centre’s, not a major difference but it did brighten the one on the right up slightly compared to the left. Next was to throw on some decals I got from ‘The Stinky Rings’ to break the red and I can finally show you a better pic of the colour, I still have to put the red ones on the dish but all in good time, as in tomorrow LoL. Finally got onto CJT Motorsport in Ennis and got some Grayston wheels nuts, €75 for the bloody things but they do look well on the car.

So I just got the car back together at 3am on Sunday morning with a sigh of relief, jumped into bed for a well deserved 2hr nap and up at 5am to be on the road for 6am to head to Japfest in Mondello Park.
