Post 1 pic of your car, update with a picture as often as you like. Add a few details if you want about it...So we know who is who, and what we drive, and if we spot one another around.
This is mine then,

I thought I'd sign up after the MK meet, seemed like a good bunch of guys. I was driving the black Suzuki, I know it isn't stanced very well and am on fake splits but trying to split my money between this and my Civic build isn't the easiest.

Haven't been on Stanceworks for a while, last time I was on here there wasn't a UK section. Octagonal Paul's invite to the MK meet alerted me so thought I'd come and have a looksy.
Here's my 330ci Clubsport lowered on Genuine BBS LM's. Did have lots more plans for it, but due to the imminent arrival of an E46 M3 SMG this has to go.

So, i sold that and bought a 1.3 DX with the intention of making it go fast. Sadly, the fitment scene couldn't keep me away for long.

DX is currently being ripped to bits as you need to change everything to convert it from carb to injection.
Got a massive list of things to go on. Recaro pole position in red, takata harness, personal steering wheel, mines ecu, do-luck hoses, vibrant racing backbox and more.
Will be at HellaFlush UK, and also may try and make the MK meet, although it's over a 2 hour drive. Will see what i can do.
Nice to see this section getting bigger, when i first joined it was like me and one other! :)
Jorge

Jorge
02-18-2011, 10:16 AM
Are they the weaker 17x7.5 ET30 or 40 5s then? Because those kinda spaces would give you a negative offset out back.
warrior
02-18-2011, 10:23 AM
yeah they are the baby ones et 40 wanted the other ones with the 20 et but could find any that needed a refurb at the time. I've got some more BMW wheels that are goin on this year which when fitted will give me a -2et up front and a -6et out back :)

unfortunately the car doesnt believe in lows unless I get some serious body mods done. 6 3/4 inches off the ground, standard 4 inch wide wheels - hows that for not fitting in? working on generally cleaning her up and sorting out the mess that is the paintwork.
do love the scene though.

I wish Jorge! I'm on a tight student budget at the moment - a respray will come first (Aiming for July!) as she's looking a little patchy, what with the primer patches and all, then I'll see what I can bribe dad to do suspensionwise - looking at a Spax shocks conversion, as at the moment she's on leafsprings and trunnions... not lows friendly.

in the market for some nicer wider wheels, and to smooth down some of the lines - i'd also like to unbolt the wings, cut the tabs and weld them back on, and if the need arises with new wheels, bring them out a bit (flare, not widen the whole thing)
also got a boot rack for christmas.
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/181525_1853786822156_1165378265_32277755_5825819_n .jpg
a 'shop my friend did when he was in a 'euro' mood - personally i'd keep her white (-er than she is now... 40 year old paint is less than brilliant even after a t-cut) and leave off the purple roof. he dehandled her.. which kinda just makes the sideline stand out a bit more, plus i wouldn't trust my battery to power door opening solenoids, so i think i'll end up just leaving the door handles.
considering cutting the bumpers so they'd fit closer to the body
id' think about a roof chop, but as she's monocoque that'll be a lot of dealing with DVLA and probably a Q plate, and i like my plate :mad
open to ideas and suggestions tho!
interior needs new carpet, but i wanna keep all my junk - got a bauble, lightsaber, metal chicken silhouette and a million air fresheners hanging from middle mirror and a load of beanie babies on the parcel shelf. wanna upgrade sound system - we're running a kenwood with some speakers i got out of an old rangerover at the moment!
interior cluttery, exterior nice and smooth n clean pls.
the best thing about her current wheels? the tyres - firestone originals

Ahhh ratmog...if I'm looking at that diagram correctly you have torsion bar suspension up front, similar to beetles, which = remove a few bolts, remove arm, turn arm on splines, reinsert arm. LOW. Flip the leafs/get them reset/order custom and you'll be killing it!!!! You have the most cost effective suspension here! :)
Polish the bumpers, hubcaps and other chrome, lower it, paint the wheels white and it'd be perfect imo

ohoo, what lovely advice, and yes, it is torsion bar. I'll have a look about for how to do that! COST EFFECTIVE WIN.
EDIT: I know what i'm doing next week now ;D
Its is all pretty polished, just... grimy from the motorway at the moment, yes, I am mad enough to drive this on the M4 for two hours.
wheels do need some paint though. will see if i can weedle a powder coating out of boyfriend's dad.
EDIT: red has been suggested... we have a surplus of red spray paint.

You know whats even more cost effective.... again what VW owners like to do, natural Patina of original paint.
And you could rock those standard wheels nicely...
Simple, just 'VW it'
If you wanna change the wheels, try to force some of those american racing wheels onto it, the torque thrusts.
I cant change wheels very well, so i just slammed it

am on the look out for van wheels for the back - standard moggy van wheels were a half inch wider in the same design, so that works. they are really quite thin and very prone to being slippy on roundabouts because of this, so i'd feel easier with wider wheels. psh she needs a wash - can't remember the last time she was that ^ clean!
hmm. could just copy EXACTLY what beetle owners do, and make an almost joke out of it - already got a haynes beetle air freshener and constantly have to tell people that, no, this car is not a beetle.

I agree, the look of the paint gives it some character, white is nice too (not sure what colour you gonna paint it) and the wheels will look sexy right up in there, lower it before you decide on wheels though, then you can measure accurately. I want to see this slammed, I'll even give you a hand if you're near enough if you like
ratmog
02-21-2011, 09:39 AM
a hand is always appreciated - I'm in swansea so if you're ever down in rainy wales gissa shout - she's gonna stay white, i've become very attached to the colour despite so many people urging me to choose dark purple or some rubbbish.
we've been working on lowering boyfriend's rover 214si recently, i think its going down 60mm, but he wants it to go further... its a complete rat and a whole lot of fun. best activity in it? leaving chavs in their corsas standing on the line.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs899.ash1/180791_1841918165918_1179506861_32242716_3282705_n .jpg
the more i think about it and look at photoshops, the more i want to get out there and do it right now. unfortunately boyfriend's tool box is with him in gloucestershire, and dad's industrial jack/garage/never ending knowledge is also 65 miles away. all I have is my essentials ): an adjustable spanner and the starting handle!
this weekend i did get a bit of time to rust-kill (it wasn't 'pretty' rust), sand down and respray the worst patches... in beige primer!

rip out the helper springs and if that fails, get some chassis notches going on.

Well you never asked haha. If your at Jordans tonight walk round and have a look...
Also this is not an easy car to slam, but I like the challenge. I'll get some pictures of the modifications the front arches took.
I don't have any helpers etc, the rear is a beam and panhard setup so the shock and spring are separate :(

03-03-2011, 04:25 AM
Fuck that jack stand looks like it's gonna colapse! Can't see properly but is it sitting on the bumpstops fulltime? I think it'd be quite easy to chop the bumpstop bottom where the spring sits so it's just enough to hold the spring in there nicely, then either remove the bumpstop or get smaller ones. 2p
michealis
03-03-2011, 06:54 AM
Nah that's an old picture, just to show what I'm working with. The springs are less than half the size now, with about half a cm of bumpstop which I'm still riding on.
Also we see jacking it up to sort the axle stand out, pretty sketchy...

Haha. It gets mixed responses but I like it. It's on the bumper but its actually attached to the proper towing point so fully functional. Plus this is no show car. It sits well but its just pretty much a track car on nice wheels. I have a set of 17" Golf multispokes that go on when I want to use it in anger.

@ajk... Im confused how your rears are et3 and not that far out??? my cups on the back are sat at about et10 and only poke a little less than yours but from g60 arches...
you have et10 on a 9
mine a 7's et3
you have 32mm LESS clearance inside and EXTEND an extra 18mm more than mine on that, hence more poke, Fuck know how you can run that wide im struggling with 7's haha
Edit: kinda useless unless you understand et's, et's are changed via width so
if you had:
5j et 0
for the face to sit in the same place it would be
6j et 25(.4)
or 7j 50(.8)
or 8j 76(.2)
because there is 25.4mm in an inch
But if you had this higher et you would foul inside, sorry if this is sucking eggs.
chris_newcoololdschool
03-14-2011, 06:23 PM
I get you, pretty much anyway :P
I didnt realise et changed with width, I thought it just measured the distance from the hub to the inner and outer edges of the rims, and so automatically was higher or lower/ the further in or out the wheel sat, regardless of wheel width, just generally meaning small width rims were always higher et than wider ones.
But i get what you mean, its just overly complicated :P
Edit: after re-reading the first part of your explanation I know understand it :) Thanks
2nd Edit: So, for my fronts face to be the same position as my rears: They're currently 7j et20 i would need to buy 35mm (25.4 plus10) spacers? This would then lower the et by 35? to make them 7j et-15?

Chris what you need to do in this situation is measure from your wheel lip straight out horizontally to where you want the wheel to sit and that will equal the sized spacer you need. All the above calculations are fine but the same offset doesn't mean it will sit evenly front to rear because front and rear geometry isn't the same. Your not poking your rear right? (nohomo) So measure the rear to the arch then measure the front to the arch and the difference your spacer size, need to match the distance to arch regarless of et's and widths. Sense?

my rears pretty much sit perfect, slight poke, with the wheels being 9j et15 with a 5mm spacer giving final offset: 9j et10 no?
For the fronts i know that to space it out i just need to measure from where the lip is to where i want it to fit, but surely the calculation i did above works too, or was that just pot luck?
EDIT: just used the website scrapp provided, and it shows that the 7j at et-15 matches the 9j et10 in poke, so my calculation was right :)

It may be close enough but it has more to do with where your arches are not wheel specs, just measuring it is the easiest most accurate way to do it imo although your still limited to whatever sized spacer you can get so...meh. On other cars the offsets/widths required to be even are a lot different so that's the most basic straight up method. Say on my car I have 8.5j and 10j with basically the same offset and it's even.
And your right with your rear offset :)
Edit: I'm not good with those calculator things but to me you would use that when you are changing wheel specs or tyres on the same wheel not front and back, and you'd still have to measure things anyway...I dunno
chris_newcoololdschool
03-15-2011, 06:16 AM
Cheers, thats the problem with having such Mahusive arches on the front to fill :P
But that website scrapp posted is awesome, for comparing different sizes, all its missing is arches for poke, but obv that varies on car to car...
Nice :alright..So you and Jorge tag teamed that spot eh
Oh yeah, was the first time I'd been up there....my usual favourite spot wasn't accessible on a Sunday evening :(
Hahah wow didn't even notice they were same spot.
Someone said to me they have seen a Civic coupe outside Blockbuster on your wheels, new car?
haha really, its only been in Derby since Friday. Yeah the winter raped the hatch with rust and this coupe popped up for a sweet price, gonna be getting rid of the RZs soon too ;)
Jorge
03-15-2011, 08:41 AM
It's a shame they've ripped down the barn just up the road, that looked awesome on pictures.
Yeah, they said they saw it outside blockbuster on Friday... coupe looks better than hatch anyway, and the RZs were too small. any hints on new wheels?

Yeah I definitely prefer the look of the coupe, I'm not too sure yet, just on the lookout for some nice 16s with polished lips. Will have the centres either grape or bright purple, not sure which yet...

Hey all, this is my first post too!
Came to the meet today, and absolutely loved it. Even if I did do a dick move and smack into a kerb when I missed the turning :shifty aha.
This is my car, nothing special
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad313/epiclydanny91/IMG_8532.jpg
Been waiting on a set of adapters so I can fit my pontiac snowflake alloys that I have. Been waiting 1+1/2 months with one guy, so I met up with a lad today at the meet to try and get them done in a couple of weeks time.
I don't really go to shows to show my car off, I go to them to take photos and enjoy other cars. By the end of this year I should have a Volvo 240 but we shall see aha. Anyway, looking forward to the next meet! I shall post my pictures up on here at some point aswell :)
