It's definitely not OEM. It hasn't been used for a while (as far as I know).

It's got an RGB value, so it's not like a chameleon paint or anything.

It's offroad to some degree. The car is definitely going to be set up for an 'urban assault' theme, and it'll definitely act offroad-capable, but the stock X5 suspension really isn't built for any sort of serious mudding endeavors.

And to answer your second question, maybe. I'm pretty sure, but only maybe.

We received the X5 with front crash damage. The owner gave us the X5 and promptly disappeared, so we filed the paperwork and it became ours.

Before we started the project, we replaced the damaged front parts, which included the front fenders, with new unpainted body panels. The back half of the X5 was undamaged and retained its original black paint.

The picture of it in the shop was before Luci began sanding, just at the beginning of the taping.

Ladies and gentlemen, it pains me to the fucking bone to say this, but Oxer won. Somehow. I had to check with Eastway to get the color's actual name, but holy shit, right on the button.

Feldgrau is German Field Grey, the matte color typically used on German tanks from the WWII era. We felt that since the X5 will basically become a fucking tank, it was only a fitting color.

I still don't know how he came up with this. Frankly, I'm amazed. Amazed, shocked, saddened, everything at once.

Paint's drying right now, but I won't put up any more teasers. You know the color, you've seen the car (most of it, not the fun stuff we made for it), and very soon you'll get a whole build thread to pour over. We're currently scoping out badass places to take our photoshoot; AJ's got a great place in Joliet that we're looking into.

And for the winner, you receive what is more or less a trinket. From that black E92 with the love-or-notlove-it ADV.1 wheels, you'll be receiving a 2" x 2" aluminum plate with the FMU logo CNC'ed on it.

But it's not matte grey, just as Rota Slipstreams aren't actually Spoon SW-388s.

Our color is our closest interpretation to feldgrau as we could get. It started off with a blue-grey base, with several different paints added to achieve the color you see here. We only made a couple gallons of it, so for all intents and purposes, it's a one-off paint job that you won't see on anything else.

Plus, a two-post thread that ends in "yes, matte grey" isn't a very interesting or hilarious post, now is it? I'd argue that the laughter was well worth the "frustration" of guessing.
