I just got a set of JOM coilovers, and last night went to instal, and i got the driver's side rear done, and before installing i put the adjuster all the way to its lowest setting, and plan to go up from there. well here is where it sits...
10 hours after install
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/Vegas_666/SNC00016.jpg
lowest setting.
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/Vegas_666/SNC00014.jpg
i was so mad i didnt do the other 3
i called the dude i got them from and bitched, and he said they have to "settle" and it will be low.
well i googled the fuck out of the issue today, and everything im finding says they should settle almost instantly...

no no no look how low my car is in my sig. thats with cut springs. so the other 3 corners are on cut springs. still slammed
I wouldn't drive it with 3 cut and one corner high...
Should just man up and pull the rear springs out all together.

i have not driven it, i put the one set on, and was pissed, and went inside. trying to finish it tonight, but it so high. wtf was the point of coils
Technically that isnt a coilover as the shock is seperate from the spring. You bought a set of height adjustable springs.... Ones that are extremely whack.

well, the rear suspension on e30s are a little different than normal. it's basically just a spring, so with coilovers you just get a spring with an adjustable collar under it. so unless your new coilover springs are super short (which it obviously wouldn't be with that cheap of a coilover), it won't compare to your cut springs.
edit: damn you oxer

well it came with shocks as well. but the fronts are def regular coilover style

yeah but they're separate. the shocks aren't what is preventing you from going low in the rear, it's the rate/size of the spring. i'm in the same situation, i want to go lower but i don't want to cut my springs, so i've got to either find smaller springs or figure something else out.
the fronts should work better. the handling should definitely be better at least.

well looks like im cutting them then. which is fucking dumb. i got these to NOT have to cut. and have control over height at anytime
pull out the pads and adjuster.:rolleyes
and by your sig, the car does not seem "slammed", lowerd yes, slammed no.

thats your decision...
I would pull them out all together and ride stops, but Im silly like that.
Not a whole lot of point in cutting those when you already have a set cut, and there really is fuck all adjustment in those anyway, dont know why you would even need the adjustment if cops dont care how low your car is...
:rofl
pull out the pads and adjuster.:rolleyes

That would gain maybe 20mm... LOL
Needs another 3-4 inches.

what are the JOM fronts like? are the struts shorter than OEM?

slammed in comparison to how it sits now.
oxer if i remove the springs, the axle will hit the chassis. and ride comfort will suffer immensely, and i got these to improve that.
i guess tonight ill just take out the stops and adjuster and see if that does anything. doubt it

yeah at least just run your already cut springs in the rear. no need to destroy a second set of springs. i would install the fronts, then run your cut springs in the rear and see if you like it. you can always look for shorter springs in the back later.

If you wanted to go low and adjustable on the cheap you should've bought a cheap ass coilover conversion kit and some konis and made it work. Cheap ass coilover conversion kit for pretty much anything (75 bucks). Then actually spend some money where it counts and get some Konis(I'm sure you could get some for a couple hundred used).
JOM coilovers are exactly that except with shotty oem valved shocks, and huge springs. Might as well put that kit together the way you want with some quality shocks and springs that will get you the height you want.
Removing the collar will lower it exactly the same amount as the height of the collar lol no science in that man, and removing the stop won't help unless you sitting on them which you aren't at that height.
If getting your money back is an option, do that. 500 bucks on those...... damn

yea thing is now i cant afford to do anything. and this dude is being shady
then my car is slammed compared to a truck :stickoutt
500? thats a lot of money, if you want low on a e30 and have some decent travel. best option is what ollie said + cutting the front strut.

thats exactly what he did, he told me that, bottomed out would be too low to even drive. pan sitting on the ground. and this is quite the opposite. i get what youre saying tho about the money back, but if he wouldnt have told me they would go lower than i was, i wouldnt have even bought them

I didn't realize your oil pan was near your rear suspension. To be fair to him, you haven't even installed the fronts to see how low they go.

as low as it is in my sig pic, the pan is 2 and 7/8 from the ground.
i doubt that if the car is 2 inches HIGHER than the pan will be on the ground....

Crappy parts = crappy results... especially with no research and a shifty seller.
This guy got his tucking tire:

lol Alright sorry I'm done rubbing salt on your wound. You should've done a tiny bit of research first but it is still not cool that he said it would slam your car, especially saying it would make it undriveable. Good luck getting your money back. We'll get this ish low if you do, don't worry.
edit: I hear the fronts do actually go low if you want them to.
Buyer beware....
If its a private seller not a great deal you can do.. Did you ask for pics of them installed on his car?

this actually relaxed me a little bit, but we will see. thank you Ollie
EDIT: cept this "Showing me how low a VW kit goes doesn't mean much. You'll never get that low with an E30 unless you shorten the strut housings. The JOM website only specs 20-60mm of lowering... for you imperial guys thats like 2.4" max lowering. If that's the case, don't buy these if you are hoping to slam your car because 2.4" won't even tuck the tires (see my sig, my car is lowered around 3")"
thats all the way lowered in the front

It seems for the front, you mount the perches where you want(exactly like a coilover conversion kit that I was talking about earlier), so that should get you pretty low. Rears need new springs or cut springs.:devillook

I told you that I heard VW kids were happy with the lows offered from JOM, and hadnt heard anything about BMW applications except for the claims of getting low. theres been a lot of talk about the new JOM e30 application, but nobody had posted up any pics or reviews of them yet. thats why I was curious to hear how you like them. one of the downside of being the first to try something out. you sometimes dont get the desired results.

Plus e30s have such an absurdly high stock height that you really need a lot of work to get them truly slammed. Cut front struts are pretty much a given, and the rear doesn't give you many options. Here's to hoping we'll get Zero Clearance coils sometime in the future :)
Edit: If we do get ZC coils and I'm able to save up enough for them, I'll have my GC coils for sale.

Expect the springs to settle a decent amount if they're brand new.. not a lot, but I think 0.5 - 0.75" is average

Its hard to tell with only one corner in. Could it be bound up? I've seen installs that look high off the jack but a drive around the block to relax it results in a significant drop.
I say put them on and drive it for a day. If you still don't like them then box them up and put it on ebay if the seller won't take them back.

I'd be much less concerned with the ride height and much more concerned with repairing that rust and finding paint for my car.
