View Full Version : What is your favourite wheel and why?

Schieldrop
09-16-2009, 09:50 PM
Like the headline says. And since 99% of us, including myself, is gonna say RSs, I would like a number two wheel aswell (or more). And RMs go under RSs, so no "RSs and RMs" answers:shifty

My favourite is the the RS without centercaps.
Why would be because it's a classic beauty that never fails to make ANY car look better if correctly setup.
Example:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/perkrs/s13f_3.jpg

Second would have to be ACS Rennsport Type I. But here I'm not really sure why. Think maybe because it incorporates the simple five-spoke design with the beauty that is a pure 3piece split.
Example:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/perkrs/compact3.jpg

And if I had to pick a number three it'd have to be 'Vette Sawblades like Sean used to rock. Or widened steelies.

It depends on the car as to which wheels I like for it.

#1. OZ Turbo. 3-piece, beautiful wheel IMO.

Can't decide on a #2 at the moment.

I sure love RS's. but capless... disgraceful IMO

http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/RS1.jpg

#2 is Carline CM6

I agree that it depends on the car. But I try to think about just the wheel, not mounted on anything.

As for the capless thing. In your case Sean, it wouldn't look right. But I think that's down to the color of the centers. In grey, silver, black or gold it works. I had to do without them since I used the long hub-attached racing bolts, so the caps didn't fit. But to me it just looks more hardcore and has a race feel. But RSs are my number one caps or no caps:)

The OZs also rock big time. But the Carline CM6 looks kinda hotrodish and nasty to me. But that could just be down to the fact that those are common on really ugly "full bodykit that looks cheap and poorly put together with outlandish and nasty paintjob" kinda cars where I come from.

Depends on the car, but I'm gonna have to go with HRE for my top 2:

And the 525:

RS here too. Why? I don't know really. I remember seeing them the first time in a BMW mag, fitted under a E36 M3 saloon. I didn't at that time know what wheels they were, but all I know was that I addored them and said to myself I would own a set of these once.
Which I did a couple of years later (now).

Center caps need to be on though. That's part of what I like about these wheels in the first place, the big hex cap that mimics a central locking nut and the way the spoked continue in the center cap.
I'm still trying to understand why people like the caps-off look, looking at the studs and the rusting wheelbearing cap.

I just love old school mesh in general. Mainly the ones fitted to 70/80's racecars with the huge rear dishes.

For non-mesh wheels, M Parallel's are my favorites.

Schieldrop

I just love old school mesh in general.

I agree. Mesh and/or dish is my main wheel fetish. And if they are retro or old school even better.
I feel that since I'm the only one here that likes 'em cap-less I should try and explain why. But I don't know if I can. It depends on the car. Like Seans M3 some cars need them in. But for me that's mainly if the car is very clean or looks exclusive. But if the car is more race/drift/rat/hoodride inspired they look good without them. I found fake BBS logo that fitted over the hub-hole in the middle, and it looked awesome with the long racebolts sticking out.

Love anything inward to outward beveled, where the center of the rim is concave inwards, with the wheel spokes going outwards...

My style 5s, wanted them for such a long time so gotta be my #1.

Couldn't possibly order them but i also love, BBS RS, OZ Futuras, my original polished staggered motorsports, M contours in mega low offset guise, Borbet type Cs, Borbet type As(flatcap), Azev type A and C and Brock B1 to name a few. Really i could go on for a long time about wheels! :D

The reasons? A lot of these wheels were on the euro styled cars of the 90s when i was just a pup and the M wheels? Well that should be obvious. Each of the wheels i love also have a particular car that i think they look best on. :cool

-Volk TE37 (only in 17"+ applications)
-Porsche 996 Carrera 4S ("Crabclaws")

Love this thread, glad it came back to life.

My favorites wheel is the Work Rezax 1's. I just think it's a killer design.

click the sig for top 5 mesh/5 spoke/multispoke, top 4 3 spokes, and top 10 dish. no way you can pick 1, different things work for different cars and even different looks.

This, but if I had to choose one, it would prob be BBS LMs.

By far my favorite wheels of all time are Volk TE37's. I am sucker for the tough/functional looks and the simple six-spoke design. Behind those are BBS RS's for their classy feel. Beyond that the list goes a little crazy and I start getting indecisive; CCW Classic's, BBS LM's, OZ Peg's, really anything Volk, SSR, Work, Gramlight. It all depends on what car they are going on I guess.

I currently have a set of 16x7 5Zigen FN01RC's (225/50/16 Dunlop Z1's) on the toy (they were a good deal off of a friend) and the daily is on OEM alloys.
