  • Leaf Springs........lol wut?

So I am in the process of rebuilding a 1978 MGB. Here she is....

I'm mainly doing some mechanical work right now but I definitely want to lower her in the future. She currently has some nasty wheel gap. The car has springs in the front which will make it very easy to lower.

The rear however has leaf springs .

I have found lowering kits but they only offer a 1 inch drop. I definitely want to go a lot lower than just 1 inch but I don't know how!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

          The cheap, get-it-done method:

Lowering blocks and longer U-bolts/shackles. Basically, this adds distance between the axle and the spring, which lowers the vehicle [assuming the axle is over the spring, not the spring over the axle, get what I'm sayin'?]

The Best Way To Do It:

3-link the bitch with custom coil-overs. Panhard rods are sexy.

Lowerig blocks, you can remove leafs from the leaf pack, and/or flip the second leaf upside down and re-bolt it back together.

The leafs have to be below the axle for blocks. If it is above then flip it and notch your frame if you have to.

blocks are the way to go man, there cheap as hell too. i got 4 inch blocks for an s10 for my wagon, with new u bolts and hardware for 35 bucks from summit, they have different height blocks too so u can choose your slammyness.
never seen a stanced mg, this should be interesting.

The one thing you want to remember with blocks is check them every once in a while. They will sometimes crack if they are cheaply made. The other thing to look at once in a while is to make she that they don't twist of move around in there. I have seen blocks on some truck almost falling out.

Blocks are probably you best bet for cheap and easy.

i heard a quick way to lower a car with leaf springs is

Heat them up to get them red hot

then have 2 big people stand on top of the car and it will lower the car?

dunno, saw it on Fifth Gear lol
