Aesthetics : The 1968 Porsche 907K 024 – A Sebring Winner

Andrew Ritter

In our first StanceWorks Aesthetics, I documented the Porsche 917K, so it made sense to go back even further and explore the elegant lines that gave rise to the 917. The Porsche 907 was first released at the 1967 24 Hours of LeMans and with it, Porsche hoped to capture the World Sportscar Championship. This particular 1968 Porsche 907K , chassis number 024, was driven to a first place finish in the 1968 12 Hours of Sebring by Jo Siffert and Hans Hermann. 46 years later, I found it sitting in Florida once again, but this time it was entered in the Amelia Island Concours. I took a few moments as the sun rose over the golf course to capture some of the intriguing elements and stunning body lines of the Porsche 907-024.

These photos are drop dead gorgeous! Such a stunning car, the rear shot (God forbid) reminds me of the LibertyWalk hakosuka with the almost featureless profile and single round lights… It’s crazy to see how clean these cars are these days but they were probably raced to the point of destruction!

Shame about the new wheel as opposed to a period correct Momo!

@Hugo It appears you are correct, but the seems to be that I got the chassis code incorrect and that this is in fact chassis 024 (green markings, #49). These photos were shot at the Amelia Concours and many websites claim that it was 907-023 that was in attendance, but the placquard at Amelia did claim that this chassis was in fact the winner.

Dear Andrew: I think you’ve misunderstood my earlier comment: the car you photographed at Amelia carries serial number 907023 and is owned by Joe Buzzetta. It is always presented as the Sebring winner which is total BS. The real Sebring winner was 907024 which is owned by the Revs Collection in Florida. This car is still undergoing restoration work.
